Celebrate your achievements in the wild-wood with the John Muir Award...
We use the John Muir Award to celebrate your commitment to discovering, exploring, conserving and sharing your experiences of the wild-wood.

The John Muir Award is an environmental Award scheme focused on wild places... It encourages the discovery and conservation of wild places, in a spirit of fun, adventure and exploration.

Not only is the John Muir Award something you can be proud of, it would look great in your record achievements... and for special people like you... its FREE!

To attain the award you must first of all let us know you want to do it and then you MUST attend at least four of the wild4woodz activity days and complete a portfolio of your experience (don't worry this is fun and we will help you all the way).

So what do I have to do to get the John Muir Award...
Discover: Get out in a wild place... that is to say somewhere special in the wild-wood.   This challenge is all about discovering your own wild place.

Explore: Find out more about your wild place. Look at the plants and animals that live there, travel through it, or find out what it sounds like at different times of the day. Exploring is about getting to know and experience a place.

Conserve: John Muir set up the world's first national park and was committed to ‘putting something back’ into wild places. So for this challenge you need to do something to help take responsibility for your wild place. You could be cutting back bushes, coppicing trees, making bird feeders. Maintaining paths, taking off tree guards or minimising your impact. Perhaps conducting a survey of the wildlife that lives there through a biodiversity blitz survey or using  a digital camera . Conserving is about giving you a chance to look after your wild place.

Share: A major part of the Award is to encourage people to value wild places. So throughout your Award we ask that you find ways to share what you are doing. This could be a group discussion around a campfire, a display at school, or maybe a contribution to a website. It could be artwork, information leaflets or taking other people out to enjoy the places you have discovered. This is the chance to share your experiences with others.
